Did anyone take the home tour on May 17th?
I think I read that there were only 6 homes participating. Is that less than average as this was the ninth year of the tour.
Just wondering what it was like.

Mike,
Reviews were very positive for this year's tour! Crowd reached 800 again.

The Montrose in May Committee has established that 5 to 6 homes is the goal for the tour. In early years we had more homes. However, when we had more than 5 or 6, tour-goers felt they do not have enough time to absorb the architecture & decorating. Additionally, it was very difficult to staff the homes adequately during the tour.

For the record:
2003 - 6 homes, Marshall School
2002 - 6 homes, St. Andrew's Church
2001 - 4 homes, 1 garden, Orange Lawn Tennis Club
2000 - 6 homes
1999 - 6 homes
1998 - 6 homes, 2 gardens
1997 - 8 homes
1996 - 9 homes, 3 gardens
1995 - 9 homes, 2 gardens

Sincerely,
Amy Dahn

This is all well and good, but I was disappointed to learn that 3 of the houses on the tour were up for sale, one of which had an open house the very next day. While I don't want to minimize the benefits of the $20 or $25 donation, paying to see houses I could see for free just doesn't sit well.

The Montrose in May Committee will take everything into consideration for future tours. We would be happy to enlist anyone's help to recruit architecturally signifiant houses for the tour; it is a very difficult job. Please contact the MPHDA with your comments so that they can be addressed: info@MontroseParkSONJ.org

In two years I hope to see the new subdivision homes on the tour.

JRF, that's awfully optimistic of you! I'd say 6-8 years at the least (of course, you could tour the subdivided lots in 2 years, but the homes would have to wait until the PILOT plans final negotiations have occurred).

I'm curious as to why a homeowner would choose to have his home on the Montrose in May tour. Is there any benefit other than the prestige?

The tour was great! Six houses was just enough. I could care less if any were for sale and have an open house. Seems a little petty to me. And the $20 was well worth it. I have never done the tour before, but would do it next year without a doubt.

I think six is the perfect #. By the time I hit the last house, I was satisfied. This group did a great job.
