Home Depot carries rugs that measure about 9x5. We bought one for our mud room, not wanting to spend a lot of money. It was $30ish? a couple years ago. That may work better for you, because the edges are bound. Sometimes older dogs get enamored of chewing on the loose edges of carpet, etc & end up with problems from swallowed string. |

What about using an old sleeping bag, bed spread, washable blanket or quilt that you can put in the washing machine? The surface would still be a warm and soft one and it would be far easier to maintain than carpeting. |

thanks for the suggestions. i will check out home depot tomorrow. someone also said most carpeting stores sell remnants. Joan - i want to do a large piece of carpet. i may be putting it in garage, and want it to seem like inside to her, or on linoleum in the laundry room, and she has trouble walking on smooth surfaces. she slips and cant get up (wood floors are bad too) she has a bed. i want a large area for her to stretch out or walk around on that won't be slippery for her. thanks again. still checking for any other suggestions inscase home depot doesn't work. patty |

Patty: Indoor/outdoor carpeting may work best. It has a no slip surface on the bottom and and a rough short pile surface on the top. The carpeting would be less likely to move when your dog steps on it, the upper surface would provide the traction your dog needs, is usually pretty inexpensive, is easy to find, comes in large sizes, and is relatively easy to clean. |

We're ripping out a lot of carpet in our new house. Does anyone want it? I'll give it out for free. If I don't have any takers, whom can I call to take it away? I'm willing to pay a disposal company. Tom Reingold
