I received a chilling e-mail over the weekend. It was an automatic notification from a website called "word-of-mouth.org" telling that an anonymous person posted information about me on the website -- whose alleged purpose is to trade info about people. To view "goods" he/she has on me, I'd have to pay $20 to become a member. Has anyone ever heard of this site? Do I have reason to worry? Should I pay the $20 to find out what was posted about me? |

I and other people I know have gotten this e-mail, too. I wouldn't worry about it. * * * I respectfully dissent.

Looks like they're a one-month old Canadian firm. Yet if you read their site, it sounds like they have a lot of satisfied customers. A scam.

I wouldn't worry either, I agree it looks like a scam. I run a security web site and write two columns a week. I think I'll do one on this and maybe I can dig up more info on them. |

Thank you for all your responses! lseltzer, can you post a link to your column when it is available? I'd love to know what you dig up. This was very unsettling for me. |

I've gotten several of these. Clearly a spam/scam. You can actually report this on the FBI website if you want to. Best, P

There's a site that keeps publishing information about what people think about me. It's called MaplewoodOnline. Should I be worried? |
