As we click through the channels with our remote we often come across the town meetings on Channel 19. I'm not sure who is responsible for the taping but the audio is horrendous. We watch for a minute or two but after that we just can't take it anymore. We have seen Maplewood's meetings and the audio is crystal clear, why can't SO fix this? I wouldn't be surprised if more people would watch and become involved if they could only make out the sound. |

The taping is done by volunteers, but the audio has been a problem for years. Whenever anyone speaks they have to remember to speak into the microphones or the person cannot be heard. Does it come through clear when we speak into the microphones or is the quality always poor? (I can't just turn it on at home since I have direct TV and do not have access to the meetings - and yes I am a Yankee fan which is why I had made the switch last year).

I think now the problem is if speakers get too close to the microphone the words are fuzzy. Previously the speakers had to be sure to get close to the mike; now it's the opposite (I think). Everyone is glad that you're back; hope you had a good vacation. |

I would have to say all the time. We caught last nights planning board meeting when a young women was seated to the left of the platform and began speaking. She was no more than 6 inches from the microphone and it was still terrible. Between people shuffling around and talking elsewhere in the room and the microphones not seeming to key in on the person speaking it is incredibly difficult. I would have to imagine that someone in town or students at the high school should be able to put together a plan to fix it. |

I'm not an audio expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I would think that changing the mikes to better quality ones designed for this kind of environment would eliminate this problem. Any chance this can get in the budget for next year? |

The mikes which we have now are new. We used them for the first time last month. I'm hoping when we get comfortable with the proper distance for speaking the audio problems will be history. |

Based on what I saw last night I'd be awfully surprised if this is a matter of how far someone is from the microphone. Besides the amusing picture of telling everyone "please keep you mouth 5" away from the microphone" in order for it to work, I have to believe that given the proper equipment and set up this problem would not exist. Who made the decision to purchase the new microphones? Was an audio expert on hand to assist? Has Cablevision or any other local experts been consulted? |

Are the Maplewood TC's or BOE bradcasts any better? I agree -- the audio quality is so poor its really tedious to listen to. I don't recall the BOE meetings to be much better, if at all, and the Maplewood ones (which I might catch by accident) -- not great either. Point being -- if anyone watches those regularly -- and they are *better* -- maybe we can learn from them. /Pete |

I did happen to catch a fleeting moment of a Maplewood meeting, and it seemed to be much better. I will spend some time over the next few days to see if I can get a better feel for both broadcasts and report back. If anyone has any other first hand info please post. |

The Maplewood meetings seem to be much clearer. A couple of areas that seem to have improved in the Village are that you can now hear the Village Attorney and Village Administrator, if they remember to speak into the mike. Previously, you couldn't hear them at all. Speakers from the audience can be heard a little better if they hold the mike. It does seem as if we have quite a few people in the village who are in the music or other performing arts business who might be able to figure this problem out. The fact that we are able to see these meetings is quite a service, and it would be nice if we could hear clearly. I know that the trustees had been aware of the problem, and it does seem that it shouldn't be that difficult to resolve.

I'm watching the Trustees' meeting right now and the audio is terrible. Most of the audio has been completely unintelligible. |

I am also 'trying' to watch the meeting but the mumbled voices makes it less than easy. I would agree that the Attorney and Administrator as well as the audience seem to be somewhat better, but still not very good. |

The new microphones are awful. We are returning them and going back to the old ones. Any volunteer audio consultants out there that want to come to village hall, feel free to stop by and tell them I sent you.

Actually, I think we should put it in the budget to bring in a professional audio consultant to solve the problem once and for all since it has been going on too long. We should only pay him when the sound quality is acceptable. It is long overdue and if we are going to televise meetings, then we should be able to do so with decent sound quality. |

I also gave up after awhile. I was sincerely interested in the woman speaking about the windshields broken at Mountain Station in broad daylight! I'm no audio expert, but it sounds like the sound is being picked up by the camera's own microphone. It would probably sound much better if there was a way to plug the microphones into the camera. |

The camera is at the back of the room. I did not think that camera had a mike, but we should check that out.

I was surfing this evening and happened upon the Planning Board meeting. The audio is very good. If the Trustees' meetings are as good it would be great. |

Allan Rosen: Is the set-up exactly the same for the Trustees' meetings as for the Planning Board. It seems that the Planning Board audio has generally been pretty good in the past. Was some adjustment made last Friday as you mentioned?

dobulea: The set up is exactly the same. The audio visual expert stopped by since the last trustee meeting and again last night to make whatever adjustments were needed. I won't ask why he did not make sure it was working correctly when he installed the new microphones. Let's hope the problem is solved. |

doublea: As promised the equipment was adjusted on Friday and rechecked last night while an audience was present. Please continue to monitor the meetings at least through next Monday and give us feedback (hopefully the good kind). |

Televised meeting is noticeably better. Much clearer audio and visual (camera even moved to follow speakers). Thanks! |

Mr. Rosen: Now that the TV problems are solved, how about fixing the temperature in the Trustee meeting room so that it's a reasonable 72 degrees during meetings, and not the usual 172 degrees. Thanks. |

Washashore: I am told that because of the unusually cool and rainy weather the "town" has not yet turned on the AC in Village Hall--but they promise to have it working before the end of June. |
