Does anyone know of any similar kinds of places in the area, where kids (and adults) can do this sort of thing, but at lower prices and with sales people are helpful?

There are two "Color Me Mine"s in the area. One in Summit on the main drag, and one in Florham Park (on South Orange Ave/Columbia Turnpike).

Thanks for the tip. I hadn't heard of Color Me Mine, but I just looked up their web site and they look like a good alternative with a lot more choices, and it looks like they are less expensive too for most things. Do you know if there are other "make/paint/decorate your own" craft places for kids around here?

Ok, I may be stuck in the 80s, but there used to be a place called Plaster Playhouse somewhere around here. NO IDEA if it's still around. I thought there was a place similar to Paintin the Plates in Millburn... not sure though. Try lookin up paint your own pottery studios on google, or maybe yellowpages.com. I'm not a fan of Paintin the Plates either.. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one.
Good luck!
