The following has now happened to me twice: I turn on my computer and the Netscape Mail Wizard appears, asking me if I would like to establish an account. This is distressing, as I already have one. But that account has vanished, as have some of my Netscape browser settings and all my mail. In order to re-establish a Netscape mail link to Optimum Online, I have to go through the whole Netscape mail registration process. Once the account is up again (using the same user name, password, and ISP) all my address book entries and bookmarks are still there--but my mail is gone, including mail saved to local folders. I also then have to re-set my Netscape home page to "My Netscape". All these settings ARE actually retained, along with my username and password, but for some reason default back to the Netscape home page whenever this glitch occurs. And another thing: Windows Media Player now refuses to connect to the radio, claiming I'm trying to access an unupported or corrupt file. (I think it may be rejecting video clips too, but I'm not sure.) I'm using Windows XP, if that matters. I can't figure out if the problem is with Netscape, Optimum Online, or my computer. Any ideas?? Fortunately, I have a Netscape webmail account, and after the first instance of this obnoxiousness I made sure not to delete anything important from it. Plus, I set up a BCC of all my sent messages to the webmail account, which seems unaffected by any of this stuff. But I can't stand the clunkiness of the webmail program and really don't want to have to use it for anything but backup. |
