Can anybody recommend an at-home typing class for kids, either from a book, on line, or a computer program? Thanks.

My husband just had to relearn how to type (don't ask). He used a computer typing program called Mavis Beacon?, he thinks it would be appropriate for older kids -maybe 4th grade and up. He found it helpful.

My kids liked the "Type to Learn" program that is in the schools better than anything else we had found in the computer stores. We didn't think that it was available individually until we discovered the Sunburst catalog and website - www.sunburst.com. They do offer a home version and we purchased both the "regular" and "junior" versions for them when they were about ages 9 and 5 respectively. They really enjoyed them and seemed to learn a good bit from them for several months. Haven't had them out recently though. (Maybe we should dig them up and see if we can rekindle the interest and maybe move up a few more levels.)

If you've got kids in the schools, The Scholastic Monthly Book/Software Club that each school/teacher usually participates in, almost always offers a typing program each month or every other month. (for about $14.95) . Private Line me if you need a place to order (only schools/teachers can order; individiuals, except for homeschooling families, are not eligible to order directly from Scholastic Book Clubs)

The April issue of Arrow (sent to grades 4-5-6) offers Type to Learn® 3: Home Edition CD-ROM
Book Club Price: $14.95.

Thanks so much for the suggestions.

spw784, "Type to Learn" and my daughter haven't clicked so far (end of 5th grade, still using two fingers), but I don't think she's been that interested in learning to type (it's more my interest than hers!). I may take you up on your generous offer.

Sac, if your Type to Learn program is handy, can I borrow it and check it out?

I also looked up Mavis Beacon on google and found a variety of programs (kind of like the cereal aisle), including some fun looking ones for my two younger kids.

Thanks again
