I was told that prices range from $70-100-ish for a tuning. Three names that I've been given (with phone numbers for two) are: ? Dobek 973-740-0538 Albert Lord 973-239-0098 Damon Falzone I haven't had any of them yet, so I can't give any recommendations for or against. |

We've used Arkady Ayzenshtat 201-797-1379. We got his name from one of the elementary school music teachers, and he's tuned our 70ish year old upright piano plus minor repairs in the range of $70-120 (the latter when more work was needed). Very happy with his work--and he's a good piano player, too! |

Damon Falcone is excellent. He'll cost you just under $100 but he does the pianos at NJPAC. He lives in Berkeley Heights |

Jeffl--is Damon Falcone a registered piano technician? I can't find him listed on their website (http://www.ptg.org/rptsearch/show_chapter_list.php?Region=1).

I recommend Bob Dowling (973) 586-3090. His fee is $90 and he spends a good hour on the work. Two things I appreciated about his work: he was happy to answer all my little new-piano-owner questions and he gave balanced advice about repair. I later learned that my piano teacher recently switched to Bob for tuning and she is very pleased with his work as well. We had been given an old, beat-up, but very playable piano by a friend. Bob talked about possible repairs that we might consider but also was honest about the cost/benefit issues. We essentially agreed that it would probably make sense to wait and see if kid or mom (both beginners) developed a serious piano addiction over the next couple of years and then consider buying a better one rather than investing in costly repair of this one. Bob is also just a nice guy who clearly loves pianos and music in general. Cathy aka Bacata/Nakaille

Elizabeth, I can't tell you whether or not he (Damon) is registered. All I can tell you is that he tunes all the NJ PAC pianos and has tuned pianos for every famous jazz/classical pianist you can think of. If NJ PAC trusts him, you can. He's also a great guy. I always seem to end up having conversations with him about some of the jazz gods I've idolized and what he knows, firsthand, about them. |

I second Bob Dowling's services. We had our 1937 Steinway rebuilt recently, and he was very helpful in putting the final touches. |

xavier67, With Bob putting in the final touches, does that mean you did not have the rebuild done by Steinway? |

The piano, which was in a horrible shape, was rebuilt by someone in Virginia (that's where it was originally). After it was moved up here, we asked Bob to do an "after-a-move" tuning job. He found the piano needed more than just a tuning, and spent a day or two adjusting the work done by the rebulder. |
