Where can I go within a couple hours drive to get my kids and myself out of the house for the weekend? I can not go to Chuckie Cheeses again. Are there any theme parks with indoor activities? Is there any dry land left? Help please!

Northlandz in Flemington has the biggest indoor minuture train sets around, not an amusement park, but sort of neat. Traveling further in that direction past New Hope there is an indoor amusement park, maybe near Peddler's Village -- I'll see if I can locate the name. We love New Hope for day trips, even in the rain. Park in Lambertville, go to River Horse Brewery, get 4 sample beers for $1 and walk across the bridge to New Hope. Stop at Great Jones store and buy a toy. Go to "dead head" store and look at bumper stickers. Eat lunch and drink more beer ...

Ok, I'll go research that indoor fun place now.

I've had great times just popping down to IKEA. the kids can romp around the kids section (if they are too little for the ball room, as toddlers are)--there are tents and tunnels and toys set up along with the furnishings and there's a little slide. And of course the ball room for bigger kids.

You can get really cheap lunch or early dinner and watch the airplanes take off from the cafeteria.

Alternatively, and for I think $8 a pop, you can try the children's museum in Paramus--really nice set up from sandbox and real excavator and fire truck to various themed playrooms (store, castle, house, ballet studio, wild west--with one of those bouncy horse ride things that they can ride endlessly with no quarters needed--etc.) They've got a website. If you can't find it, I'll dig up the URL.

The Childrens museum, while not an architectural marvel is wonderful. My 2 and a half year old loved it. Riding the fire truck, the backhoe, the helicopter, etc etc etc.

Heres the link

you can always visit jenkensins aquarium in opint pleasant. it's about a 1 hour and 15 minute drive. the kids will love it.

also, there is a children's museum in east orange. very interactive.

over by ikea there is a place called the rexplex. every activity you can imagine is under one roof.

My kids like the Crayola Factory in PA,
{http://crayola.com/factory/index.cfm?mt=factory}. I'll second IKEA's cafeteria and the Children's Museum as great places to be on days that seem like they're a month long(!) You can continue the IKEA plane viewing outing with a trip on the monorail at the airport (VERY fun). We always found the Museum of Natural History to be a good place for toddling around, and even though I don't have toddlers anymore , I still seem to wind up there every other month.

It's kind of messy, but playing outside in the rain, especially jumping in puddles is great fun for kids.
