Does anyone know what is the going rate for a private nanny (not through a service) to care for one infant, 5 days per week, approximately 10 hours per day? Is there a big price difference between 7 day live-in, 5 day live-in, and live-out? Thank you. |

We pay $12 an hour and all holidays and vacations. It works out to about $600 a week. |

Try a flat salary, it will be much cheaper. You are talking about $400 for one child. |

$600?--$400/ a week??? OMG!!! In the past 9 years I have had live-in nannies spanning from au-pairs to girls from out west (western states) and I've never paid so much for 2 children. When you have a live-in, you need to provide a room, food and use of the car (which requires additional car insurance.) (see thread on au-pairs) I preferred using agencies. I used AuPair America and was only dissappointed once out of 3 girls. The upfront $5000 cost is hard to take but at the end of the year including the weekly stipend I think it balanced out to about $250/week. With this, you have to deal with language problems and they only stay a year and then you have to go thru the hassel of getting another one. My favorite agency is Heartland Nannies from Nebraska. The upfront cost was about $1000, plus the girl's airfare to get here. The up side is the girls speak English, and have American driver's licsenses. They also could stay indefinitly if everyone is happy. I have had the same girl working for me for 3 years now. I have had 4 girls from Heartland and was very pleased except for one I sent home after 3 weeks--she just wasn't ready to be away from home.

We tried to hire someone from MOL - but no luck. The women we interviewed either had salary expections we could not meet ($600/week, plus time and a half overtime, plus paying their social security/medicare AND federal income taxes, and provide a car even though they had their own; they wouldn't do the parents' laundry etc.) And they would not show up for interviews, etc. We eventually tried a nanny service - Americas Nannies (they have a website with the same name, I think. We are delighted. We have a mature woman who is thrileed to live in NY and we are thrilled to have her. Good luck! |
