I need to have a 30,000 mile servicing and don't want to use the dealer anymore. Anyone have good rec's for a local (reliable honest etc) mechanic for our Isuzu? Thanks |

Toomey on Baker and Maplewood Avenue's worked on our car when we moved here. They seemed to solve any problems that came up. We haven't used them since getting a new car a few years ago. I did recommend them (Toomey) to a friend who was not as thrilled with their work as we were. He had to bring it back several times and they ended up holding onto it for an unusually long time before returning it unfixed. |

South Orange Auto Repair (used to be South Orange Auto Electric) on Valley Street in S.O. is great- nice people, extremely knowledgeable and honest. Tel. no. 973-762-8585. |

South Orange Auto Repair may be knowledgeable and honest, but I've found them to be VERY expensive. Rick at M&P Auto on Lackawanna may not be the fastest guy out there, but he does a great job and his rates are reasonable. |

We have had good luck with Toomey's for routine work such as tuneups, brakes, etc. I don't know if they would be my first choice for changing a timing belt or other work inside the engine since like most independent garages he has quite a lot of turnover with his mechanics. |

I have had some brake work done at Bumper to Bumper and have been very happy with their service. The owner seems like a very nice person and when i brought my car in a second time thinking that I was going to pay an arm and a leg for having something loose under the car, he fixed it within 5 minutes and didn't even charge me. I will definately return to them for service. |

What ever you do, DO NOT use Quality Auto on Valley St. They Suck. I took my car to them for service because it shut off on us repeatedly, and every time I took it in they charged me for a computer analysis and labor. After the second time and over $350.00 I took it over to S.O. Auto Elec. they corrected the problem and charged me $78.00 total. The problem was in the spark plug / cabling system. |

Bernie's Tire & Auto on Millburn Ave. They've been doing work on all our cars for close to 20 years. Never had a problem - and they are very upfront and honest. |

We like International Motors (AKA George and Mauro) on Valley Rd in SO--across from Pizza Hut. Nice guys and, as far as we can tell, honest and knowlegable. |

Frank DeFinis on Millburn Ave. between Valley and Springfield is great. He does good work, is very honest and has even offered to drive me back home or to the train when I've dropped off my car for service and had no other transport. I trust him more than any other mechanic I've ever used. |
