I would like to know why the village promotes the "Public Safety Softball Challenge" year after year after year when the event has been cancelled year after year after year due to the police department's overtime commitments on the day. I asked the same question last year and got no response. What gives?

The intention is that they will try and play. If they can't play this year, then we should try and put together a game with different players.
For the most part everyone has fun and it is usually well attended.
Since I am always away on July 4th, 2003, you will have to let me know next week if they play and if not we can start taking suggestions for teams for a game for next year.

Where can I find out more about the South Orange 4th of July events?? We just moved here from Maplewood, but wanted to check out the S.O. celebration this year b/c we heard the S.O. version by the duck pond is pretty good (& b/c we know what Maplewood does already); thanks in advance for any help you can provide,

mwoodwalk (I guess I should change my name to S.O.walk now, heh??)

A copy of the schedule was delivered in the last issue of the Gaslight. If you didn't receive it, we have extra copies at the South Orange Library as well as at the Baird Center.
Holler if you need more info.
