Is there a useful alternate route here to the stretch of the Garden State Parkway from the Driscoll Bridge (about 129 to about 142)? When we're coming from the south we have alternate routes up to that point, but taking 1&9 or the Turnpike goes too far east and the only other possibilities I see involve too many small roads and turns.

It's not often that the Parkway is really bad in that area, but I don't like not having an alternative. I realize that if I know there's a problem close up to the tolls I can get off at 22 to Vaux Hall.

Larry

Are you driving a really hot motorcycle, racy sports car, umungous SUV, or, good forbid, are you piloting a ubiquitous family van! If you are driving a van with the wife and kid coming back from the shore and everyone is feeling grimy and fatigued, then you must stay on the GSP ~ it is a right of passage. Just pull over when overheated and count the one eyed cars coming at you.
