Bisquit 100, Just curious...do you know the name of the OB/GYN who was supposed to be there. I used the same practice, Dr. Hollander was my main Dr., but I had a horrible experience with the Dr. who was on call the night my water broke. |

I second Barbara's rec. 3 kids, 3 successful outcomes. One of my nearest and dearest is a Labor/Deliv RN at St B and many, many, many go to the same practice...and they them all! |

biquit100, you were fortunate. All three of my children were (intentionally) delivered by certified nurse-midwives; when my third delivery slowed down, the wonderful & seasoned CNM found a way to move things along without sticking an IV in me or giving me that horrible pitocin... 2/3 of my deliveries were 'natural' deliveries (w/o drugs), again, by choice. (The middle involved a less seasoned CNM who did give me an IV & pitocin & some pain-killer so I do have means of comparison) dpc - good luck to you & your wife! |

To be honest, I don't remember his name, only that he looked like Dustin Hoffman in lifts. And to snowmom, I did feel lucky. I would have felt luckier if he hadn't even been there at all. His insensitivity really tainted the experience. |

Two with a certified nurse midwife. Its best to let the doctors just take care of sick people. |

Both of our kids were delivered at Overlook by Rona Magaril whose office is in Springfield. My wife is an MD who did her residency at Overlook so it was what you'd have to call a pretty educated pick. She was great both times as was the hospital. |

Bisquit 100 and ANeighbor, I'm concerned about this doctor b/c I was recently in Dr. Hamilton's office for a visit and my lip curled when I saw him. Does he have alot of hair on the back of his head (somewhat long) and it's kinda curly? Reminds me of a used car salesman or a man who loves his gold bracelets? This is the best way I can describe him. I'm nervous that I'll have him during my delivery and thinking of switching b/c of the chances I have of getting him. I've never even met him but he immediately turned me off and that says alot. Anyone else in that practice that is a turn off? Thanks! |

tourne - I second the nurse midwife recommendation - I had easy births without drugs. Doctors are necessary sometimes, but most births can be fairly simple and gentle. Just my experience, but it's worth taking a second look. 99% of the women I know who went to birthing centers had easy births. |

I used Dr. Anne Marie Campbell (in Millburn) and had my delivery at Overlook. Can't say enough good things about both.

The thing I most liked about my CNM practice (the Childbirth Center in Englewood) was that there were none of these delivery room surprises when 'your' doctor isn't on call (and you inevitably wind up with the one who makes your lip curl or refers to labor as woman's work). Consider a midwife! |

Newneighbor, The Doctor you are describing sounds more like the Doctor who delivered my daughter, Dr. Cohen...I've always thought he looked a little like Barry Manilow ...he was excellent...The Doctor who gave me a hard time was Dr. Russo. I can give you more details if you want to private e-mail me.

Dr Joanne Somers in Livingston. She's been my GYN since 1994 and delivered my son in 2001 (emergency c-section). St B's is right down the street from her office too...great hospital to give birth. |

Dr. Hamilton delivered my son by C-section, but Dr. Russo was on call the next couple of days and he was wonderful. Very sweet and supportive. Dr. Cohen is a bit cold, and he does look like Dustin Hoffman! 4 out of the 5 doctors in the practice are fantastic (including Dr. Hollander and Dr. Z). |

I agree that Joann Somers is fabulous. She works with 2 other OB/GYNs but Somers delivered my son 13 years ago and I still use her and recommend her to others. All female staff in her office [Old Short Hills Road near St. Barnabas] AND they do nice things like warm the speculums first. Good luck. |

I'll never forget the birth of Romulus & Remus... No speculums. No epidurals. No cleansing breaths. No ice chips. No videotape. And no Cigars. Just some hard panting... --The Oracle of MOL BTW: They turned out fine, in the larger scheme of things. |
