Does anyone know the status of the Irvington Ave. improvements (plantings, gaslights, etc.) that were supposed to start being implemented by the beginning of July? I thought there had been some sort of grant awarded to do these improvements, but I haven't seen any sign of anything going on. What's the scoop?

The following is from the redevelopment status insert included in the Gaslight a few months back (it's also on the redevelopment section of the Village website):

<<BACKGROUND: The revitalization of Irvington Avenue stemmed from an initiative by the Village to meet with area residents and resulted in the Irvington Avenue Partnership. Village officials, local businesses and residents met to create a collective vision for Irvington Avenue. William Scerbo, the landscape architect who designed the South Orange Avenue and Sloan Street improvements, developed a streetscape plan extending from Prospect Street to the Maplewood border. The plan includes extensive landscaping, electrified gaslights, bluestone brick pavers and a mini park. Businesses have been given incentives to undertake facade improvements through matching grants from the Village credit card program, and the Village has committed to
new business recruitment and retention.

STATUS: Plans are complete and approved. Funding for the $1 million project,
including $720,000 in grants obtained by the Village, is in place. Bids are currently being solicited for construction this summer.>>

There's not too much more time to go before summer ends. Is anything going to be happening on Irvington Ave. in the next few weeks?

The archictect's plans have been submitted for review but the work has not been sent out to bid yet. There will be some internal review of the plans before we look to hire a construction firm. No specific date for commencement of the construction has been set. I do believe that we might try to get PSE&G in to replace the street lamps soon.

Patrick: I know you probably didn't have anything to do with the "South Orange Village Redevelopment Update" in the May issue of The Gaslight, which said that bids were currently being solicited for summer construction, but this is one more reason we shouln't believe anything the Village says. It has lost all crediblity.
