Dr Norman Stack 973 763 3445, on MIllburn Ave (diagonally across from the VW dealer). Was great with our 10 yo cat over the past few months (when I first went to him). And now -- we have 2 new kittens (yikes!) -- and I'm impressed with his care. Also takes the time time to talk about what needs to be done over the next 6 months, etc. (I had forgotten that kittens are just like babies with shots, food, training, etc.) This past Saturday, at one point there were 8 cats in the waiting room (3 owners with multiple pets)! Of course, the previous time I was there -- I had the only cat, and every other pet was a dog! I find him easy going, down to earth, and prices very reasonable. Good luck with the dogs and welcome to the area! (oh -- and he has animals there from the local animal care group for adoption -- some great dogs, including younger ones, and many cats, a few kittens, too - so spread the word!) Pete |

Thank you Pete !! We will call him when our dogs are ready for a next check-up. We love our last vet and are having some separation anxiety, as he has taken care of our dogs since puppyhood. He too was compassionate, took the time to listen and always made himself available. He even called us in our new home when one of our dogs had gotten sick to check up on him. Good vets are hard to find.... will check this one out though. Thank you !!!! |

My wife and daughter took our cat to Dr. Malampati, upon recommendations I got right here on MOL. According to my wife and daughter, the doctor was every bit as nice as people say he is. Mr. Reingold and hismom, Thank you both for the recommendations. We will put out our feelers and see who we feel comfortable with. Do any of you know where there is 24-hr emergency vet care just in case we ever need it ??

Yes, HS. We had an emergency a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday. I called Dr. Malampati's number, and his message said to call Animal Emergency and Referral Center. We did, and we went there. They have vets there 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It was midday Sunday. We saw two vets there, and the one who treated our cat was very good. Of course, it was expensive, about $175, but overall, it was a decent deal. Our followup was with Dr. Malampati. Animal Emergency & Referral Center 647 Bloomfield Ave West Caldwell, NJ 07006-7638 973-226-3282 The emergency was that the cat had a red and swollen eye. She couldn't open it. The odd thing is that she wasn't complaining. The vet found that she had scratched her cornea, which normally heals itself, but he gave her soothing and antibiotic ointment, to prevent infection. We don't know how she scratched her cornea, and she's not telling. Tom Reingold

My husband used the Animal Emergency Centere when we adopted a kitten and it got very sick at 1 am. The kitten died w/in 24 hours and they didn't even charge us. The vet even called with her condolences. |

In the progess of migrating my herd from Dr. Levine to Dr. Dorney at Summit Dog & Cat Hospital. Not that there's anything wrong with Dr. Levine - on the contrary, I was very pleased with him. Unfortunately I've got one with chronic illnesses that require intermittent hospitalization and Dr. Levine has very limited resources in that direction. If that's not an issue, I'd recommend either one. "Cats climb because being ruler of all you survey sucks when all you survey is ankles." -- Unknown

Hello Papayagirl -- That was me! You have a good memory -- my 7 year old son named his kitten (all grey)"Pilchard" - after the cat in the "Bob the Builder" stories (btw - a pilchard is a herring or sardine!). The other kitten is "Pax" -- a tuxedo cat - grey with white boots. (named Pax by my idealistic all for love and peace 15 yo teen daughter!). The senior member of the cat family (10 year old tortoiseshell) was at home -- and is in deep denial about the new kittens in the house! We talked about Chester -- right? Did you have a chance to go? Enjoy the weekend -- Pete |

Pax... that was it. =-) Nope, we didn't make it to Chester... we decided it would be much more fun to spend the weekend patching up plaster cracks in our living room. But if you recall the name of the good breakfast place, please pass it along. And to keep this somewhat on topic, that was my first time meeting Dr. Stack, and i thought he was very nice. My husband's family used to live in Maplewood, and they all loved him, especially when he referred to their cats as "patients." (Unfortunately, he didn't do that with ours, and my husband had me all psyched up to hear it!) |

We use Dr Stack for our dog. Our dog was lethargic for a while. Dr. Stack diagnosed the dog with lyme disease, gave us pills, and our dog was a new person after that. From what I understand, Dr Stack is reasonably priced compared to the other vet on Millburn Ave. Marc www.millburnweb.com
