What's Trenton like?

(I know, retirees usually move south, but Mom misses the change of seasons!) As I seek out affordable housing options, Trenton keeps coming up. I've never been there, so can anyone give me an idea of what it's like? I see that their crime rates are comparable to Newark, but are there areas that are generally safer than others? What parts of the city should I look for...or avoid? That area has a lot of crack houses and crime. Chambersburg is an Italian neighborhood with good restaurants and I think is pretty safe but also quite prejudiced against people of color. Plainsboro is a suburb which used to have affordable condos (formerly farmland) but your mother would have to be able to drive, nothing is within walking distance.   margotsc Citizen Username: Margotsc Post Number: 17 Registered: 7-2002 Posted on Saturday, July 26, 2003 - 8:48 am:        Also, look in Pennington. Are you looking for her to live independently? I would agree that she absolutely needs to drive in the areas surrounding Trenton but in Chambersburg (the Italian section), she might be OK with walking.
