In the last two days I've found two dead sparrows (or finches or some other sort of small, sweet brown bird). The second one, this morning, my son and I had the misfortune of finding in its final death throes. Whew. At any rate, it seems odd to me: two deaths in as many days. Of couse, I know these birds die and must land somewhere, but still... Is there someone I should notify? Should I save these birds for someone to examine? Is West Nile Virus only found in crows? Any help much appreciated. |

West Nile Virus is found mainly in crows. Other kinds of birds may contract it too but the odds are that your sparrows died of something else. You can try contacting animal control but from what I have heard in the past, it is unlikely that they will be interested. Have you recently applied pesticide, or some other substance which may be poisonous to birds, to your property? |

Nope. I don't use any toxic stuff on the lawn. It's very strange. Guess I'll wait and see what tomorrow brings. |

I found a dead bird the other day, the second one in 3 weeks. Same spot in my driveway, too .. I did call the health officer and was told if it wasnt a crow, it was nothing to be alarmed about. He said in this hot weather they have seen many birds just die. I am glad I reported it anyway in case there is a trend. You never know .....
