Does anyone have the number for the Veteran's that pick up donations? I misplaced my postcard from them.
Thanks all

If you have the time, stop by the Salvation Army. Take a look at what they have. We always come home with an incredible bargain. I donated a bunch of clothes and decided to check the racks. I got a really nice blazer for $7.50, and it fits me well.

FYI - checked the Vets on give.org - they fail the BBB's test of what makes a good charity. Only 24% of what they collect goes to the Vets. I give all my stuff to the Salvation Army now.

The rest of it goes to "adminstration and fund raising" salaries.

The SA is in Newark and i believe WO.

But the donations are tanglible goods like clothing and toys. Does the staff get the items as salary?

They sell it by the pound to companies that 'recycle' it.

As implied by several of the above posts, it certainly isn't fair to look at the percentages to compare charities that primarily solicit cash donations vs those (like the Vets) that primarily collect and redistribute (or sell or whatever) goods. However, I have no personal knowledge about how efficient the Vets are in their operation.

That’s how I get off the phone with charities when they call. I ask them what percent goes to the PBA, homeless or what ever. Most of the time they just stammer and hang up. Sometimes they say I can learn it on the website, so I tell them I’ll check and donate from there.

Go to http://www.give.organd check out your fav charity. you may be surprised as to just how little of your donation goes to help.

Some TV news mag had a spolight on this 3 weeks ago. How unreg-ed the industry is and just how little they need to spend on their 'needy' and still qualify for all the tax breaks and keep most of the money.
