Well, I just crawled out from under my rock to find out my car insurance has gone up several hundred dollars this year with no changes to our policy, other than the insurance company merging, or changing names, or something like that. Before I pay the increase, does it pay to comparison shop? We were happy in the past because it seemed like a reasonable rate, but now I'm not sure if we couldn't do better elsewhere. Also, how does one go about shopping for car insurance? I remember hearing about a website but can't recall the details. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

I asked my insurance company about the rates when I got my renewal bill last month. it seems as if NJ Insurance companies just received a nice rate hike. Also, there are fewer and fewer companies writing auto insurance in NJ... it seems that the insurance companies have been losing money on auto insurance for ages... Marc www.millburnweb.com

We have had a thread on car insurance in the soapbox section of MOL. Don't worry; it's not very soapboxy. Check it out at /discus/messages/3127/19942.html?1060706170 People have posted some very useful advice there. Tom Reingold
