New to the area and still trying to learn/understand the parking game. Can someone help me understand how the Parking Authority can justify 2-3 year waiting list for S.O. residents(or anyone for that matter) when there are dozens of parking spots left open everyday? Anyone with the slightest business ability can see that the parking lot is run no better then a corner lemonade stand. Whether it is with the broken machines, lack of shoveling or the inability to maximize usage through increase permits, it is clear that it is a wasted resource for our town. From what I understand NJ paid for the lot, so we as SO residents don't get priority, without clouding the issue by bringing up our property taxes I will say this, why are there empty spots. Any leads on who to talk to I would greatly appreciate it. (please don't say Karen "the operations manager" I spoke to her several times and it is clear she is content riding the gravy train as oppose to making good decisions) I am getting tired of walking/being dropped of. |

Karen does not work there anymore. You should go to a parking authority meeting and meet with her bosses to voice your complaints. They meet once a month. Not sure when the next meeting is, but you can call the parking authority and ask them. |

I am a resident student at Seton Hall University. I was unable to get parking through the school, but I desperately need to find a place to keep my car. I am a volunteer basketball coach for the Christian Youth Organization, at my home church in Tappan, NY. This commitment requires me to be there several nights a week and Saturdays. If you know of anyone willing to rent driveway or parking lot space within a mile or so from Seton Hall, please contact Don at 845-656-6985 or via email at DJ62882@cs.com, thank you very much.

SUV, not! I'm not in South Orange, nor do I commute by car, but has anyone considered this as a solution to the parking problem: http://www.edmunds.com/news/innovations/articles/48362/article.html Just curious. Maybe the town could invite DaimlerChrysler or Ford in to conduct a pilot program. They only sell these to meet their low-emissions sales requirements anyway, so they don't really care about making a profit. |

Three weeks ago Ford announced they're getting out of their iThink and INeighbor electric car business, citing costs. Just when we were considering buying their Think car for commute to train station and errands around town! |

Regarding the presence of open spots in our lots: My family pays for a yearly spot. We don't promise to use it every single day. Currently, my husband works in Manhattan, and uses it almost every day. If I were the train commuter, I would be using it 4 days a week, due to my work schedule. At one point, we briefly kept paying for the spot while we both worked in NJ, because we sometimes needed to go to our companies' NY offices, and (more importantly) because my husband was likely to transfer back to Manhattan. After the 1-2 year wait to get a permit, we were not going to give it up lightly! On any given day, some permit holders will be sick, have a non-working day, work at home, vacation, travel on business, etc. The real question is to what extent do you oversell a lot to make sure that spaces aren't empty? |

This parking situation is outrageous! A travesty! Oh wait -- my parking permit just came in the mail... Never mind! |
