Turns out our little angel has been peeing on our antique oriental carpet -- thanks alot, cat -- and I'm hoping someone on this board can recommend a local business that will not only clean the rug for us but also neutralize the lovely cat urine odor that now permeates it. From what I read, it's important that the smell be fully removed rather than just covered up, lest the peeing cat be forever drawn to it. Any advice you can share would be GREATLY, IMMENSELY, 100% appreciated. |

yep, here's the deal: Bynderian Carpets in Montclair. They pick up and drop off, and put the rug in an enzyme bath designed especially to neutralize pet urine smells. Not cheap, but excellent. When our female cat turned out to be a (spraying) male, they did an awesome job at repairing the damage. Best of all, they guarantee it--if you smell it when the rug comes back, they come out and re-do the rug at no charge. AND they are nice. 973-744-2080. If you want to schlep the rug up there yourself, they knock off 20 percent. |

Thanks for the advice, Deborah, I've actually used Bynderian before (pre-cat pee) and was pleased with the job they did, I'm thrilled to hear they did a good job on your rug too. Must take care of this asap, the smell is just awful!!!! |

sounds like you found what you need, but I'll throw in my 2 cents anyway. A dog trainer turned us onto Natures Miracle (available at least at NJ Pets) for those do-it-yourselfers out there, or ones with carpets that can't be removed. Designed to eliminate odors, and break down pheromons (not sure about spelling). |

I have had several cats, and have found that almost without exception, they like to pee on wool rugs. We replaced our wool rug with cheap synthetic ones, and the cats never peed there. My advice is, after you get your antique rug cleaned, either put it away for the lifetime of your cat, or use it as a wall hanging. |
