OK, I admit it--we let our dog on the couch. His preferred spot is in the family room, with the result that we now have a dark-blue sectional covered with short brown hairs and perfumed with a combination of mud, dirty water, drool, and good ol' doggy smell. While this makes us very popular with the neighborhood pets, for some strange reason humans don't want to sit on the couch anymore. Short of paying a gazillion dollars for someone to come and steam clean the couch, can anyone suggest a way to make it livable again? |

Yes, buy a water cleaning attachement for a shop vac, use a mild cleaning soap and give it a light wash every other week or so. Lots of water, little soap, on a bi-weekly cycle will start turning that doggie spot around. Works great on Cocker slobber. |

Some people swear by spraying Febreeze on the sofa/drapes/rugs daily for several days - they claim it gets rid of lingering pet/cigarette smells and it is safe for use near animals. I use Nature's Miracle as an immediate clean-up tool and it is fabulous for that purpose - don't know if I'd use it on a whole couch to deodorize it. I'd probably wash the cover (if you can) and then try the Febreeze. We keep beach towels on the sofas most of the time so the dog can stretch out there and take them off when "company's coming". |

Febreeze smells like… well Febreeze. You can always tell when someone is covering up a smell with Febreeze. There’s even a line in a song about it “My girlfriend smells like Febreeze, what’s she hiding”. |

George--an attachment for a shopvac? Would that by any chance mean I had to OWN a shopvac?

We've actually used Nature's Miracle in a rug steam cleaner and it worked great. Not sure how it would do on a couch... |

I assumed that you had a shop-vac. Even thought that I saw it once. Checked with your other and learned the truth! I guess that since I have two, everyone would have at least one. Learned something. |

We keep two fuzzy thick CostCo bedspreads to cover our sofas for our pooches. They like to lay on top and look out the windows. We wash them once every so often, and remove when we have company. The dogs get washed too now and then, but they can stay when we have company! |

Barb - Sounds like a good idea... Where did you put Nature's Miracle - in the small container for the liquid cleaner or the larger container for water? |
