Any opinions out there regarding where the best Farmer's Markets are? The ones I have been to have been a bit disappointing - no organic (or transitional) food, and limited selection. Which town has the best Farmer's Market? Also, are there any environmental groups working on local issues in the area? Thanks, Cat |

New York City. Union Square every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. If you're a downtowner, Bowling Green on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Other locations, too, but I don't have them on hand. |

Tuesdays and Thursdays, Liberty Park (Across from the WTC hole)has a very good one. Full mix of fruits and Veg.'s with breads, pies, jams, honey, and even potted plants. The quality is great! |

Madison has an organic farmer I think, but the Maplewood market has several farmers with a good range of produce, fresh eggs, mozzarella, breads from Balthazar bakery (NYC), pies, and some amzing desserts from Jubilee Dessert Co. The smallest of the farmers aslo has poultry and Hoboken farms carries some frozen stuff like crabcakes (very good) and chicken tenders, steaks (only okay) and burgers I think. Yes, it's a small market, but it's here in town, and you support Jersey farmers and other small businesses - oh and they have a pickle vendor and at least twice a month there are potted plants, herbs etc. |
