Hi, Ive got a few significant food projects (meaning the meat is purchased...the rubs are made) that require woodchips for smoking and I used the last of my supply earlier this week...anyone know of any local/convenient places I can try to buy them? Thanks.

Home Depot had hickory chips earlier in the year. Not sure if they still do |

Home Depot has Weber brand chips and chunks. They usually have the standard Hickory and Mesquite. You're not going to find exotics like Alder, Cherry, or Apple, but in a bind... Can't wait to fire up the smoker this weekend! |

Hey Hank, do you smoke fish? Do you know how? I have a Weber Platinum, nothing too fancy. Can I use that? (I don't eat meat, or I'd be comin' over to try some!) |

With my disdain for going into Home Deepsh*t, despite my need for woodchips, I called over to the ShopRite in Millburn, and they had them. Shh, I was going to try smoking fish on the grill. I use my gas grill on indirect heat, with the soaked woodchips to make turkey pastrami, beercan chicken, pulled pork, ribs...and after grilling fish the other night, realized it shouldnt be a problem to adapt a recipe for fish or shrimp or scallops. I'll let you know how it turns out. I really like Steve Raichlin's Barbecue Bible (there is a copy at the library) but he also has a website, cooking show and cooking school. I may have to check out the website for any fish recipes. Oh and next time Im making grilled vegetable sandwiches or pizzas on the grill, I'll let you know. |

Thanks Hank. I'm a total grilling amateur, but I do love to cook (what I like to eat anyhow) and I'd love to try some more creative things on the grill.
