My coworkers swear by the place. It's not that expensive; they usually have one of those "join now & waive the initiation fee" gimmicks going on.

Initiation was $150 when I inquired & I forget how much the monthly fee is. You can join monthly, for a slightly higher fee, which I like.

The one problem is that they are closed from 11-1p daily & don't have showers. So, it's not something that works for me.

They don't have treadmills or bicycles, and they are only open to 8:00 pm. I use a treadmill and I need later hours, so no good for me, but the prices are good: $39.00 per month annual, $49.00 per month on a monthly.

Curves is a wonderful place. I haven't been to any in New Jersey yet, but I've been to several in Ohio and Florida. It is a circuit based work out and you alternate between hydraulic strength training and aerobic boards every thirty seconds. I raved about it in a tread earlier this summer. I think that the thread was initially about motion in fitness.

I just called for more information. The initiation fee is $75. If you commit for a year then you pay $39/month and can use other locations. Otherwise, you pay $49/month and cannot use other locations. They are open weekdays 8:00am-1:30pm then 4:00pm-8:00pm. Next week they will begin to open at 6:30am on Tuesday and Thursday and again at 3:30pm. I haven't decided whether or not to check them out further.

I think I may go by there and hopefully get a guest pass to try it out. do you know if they're open weekends? also, are these the hours for the SO location, or all locations - which did you call, jab?
thanks for all the feedback. these limited hours and somewhat limited gym choices are part of life in the burbs, I guess.

I looked into Curves recently and found the Curves bulletin board on iVillage to be very helpful in terms of getting a perspective on the "Curves experience." There is a fixed workout on the circuit training machines that bella mentioned and you go around the circle as many times as you want, but usually 2-3 in a half hour. The founder of Curves, a guy named Gary Heven, designed the machines himself specifically for women, although I don't know why that's necessary. Anyway, some people love it and some people loathe it. It depends on how you like to exercise.

1-2many, those are the hours for the S.O. location. I also called the Basking Ridge location, which would be convenient to my office, and they are open until 7:30pm. Keep in mind that you must arrive 30 minutes before closing time to have time for the full circuit.

Also, the S.O. location is open Saturday from 8:00am to noon.
