Scott's roofing is the way to go. He is great, professional, etc etc etc. And very fair prices too. Dont know about the others you named, but check out the home fix it section for past threads on this popular topic |

I agree with Liz. We met with Scott in person and his outfit is doing our roof this month, followed by an outside paint job by Rutgers Painting. |

Slate roofs may require specialists.... I don't know. However, I want to echo the Scott's Roofing recommendations. We had a new roof done by them a week ago and the service was great from start to finish. Got 5 quotes in, tossed out the highest and lowest and went with best word-of-mouth (from MOL) to choose the winning bid. Scott's came weeks ahead of schedule and made two follow-up visits to ensure everything was cleaned up. Couldn't be more pleased with the experience. |

We started by calling in Scotts to replace our asphalt roof last year based on the many reco's here. They seemed nice, and their price was very reasonable. But more than once, we've gone with contractors reco'd on MOL and later been sorry we didn't do more research first. So we ended up calling about 10 different roofers for estimates, including at least one you mentioned. (Long story involving technicalities with gutters and fascia boards and quotes ranging anywhere from $5-30k.) In the end... we went with Scotts, and we're nothing but pleased. |

J& J - one thing about Scott - he might tell you that you'd be better off getting asphalt and calling it a day on the constant slate upkeep...he isn't trying to sell you a bill of goods, just giving you the honest truth...just warning you in case it happens, don't let it put you off (like I almost did) cause he really is the best guy around! |

Liz(or anyone else who has experience with a slate roof): I have a slate roof and have been using Lowe for several years. I have been very happy with them. I spent a lot of money a few years ago on replacing the copper valleys and putting an ice shield on. Every couple of years or so I replace the broken or missing slates. I look back at the cost and think sometimes I might have been better of just putting a new roof on, but the slate is beautiful. My question Liz is will a good roofer tell you when the time has come to replace the entire roof (as you said Scott has done) or even on your own do you reach a point where you say to yourself "it's time." |

J&J We have used and highly recommended here A. Maartin Roofing, although the work done for us was cedar shake. Quality of work, responsiveness and price were top notch. |

Are there any contractors who are good roofers as well as recommended for other repair work? The next time we do our roof (soon) we will also have some non-trivial structural repairs that need to be done in conjunction with the roof job. So, we are wondering where to start. |
