My son is starting to outgrow his toddler bed, which also has an annoying squeak, so it's time to take the plunge and buy him a real bed. I'm primarily looking for a mattress, boxspring and frame at this time (though recommendations about bed furniture are welcome as well), but am not sure how much is a reasonable amount to spend for a decent mattress and where I should look. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks.

When ours outgrew the toddler bed we found a decent bed with 3 storage drawers underneath it at IKEA for about $150, I think. Slats instead of a boxspring. The mattress (and of course you get to choose the firmness) is great. In fact, I envy her the mattress and plan to get my next one at IKEA

I agree with C. We bought a mattress at Ikea for one daughter and liked it so much we went back the next year and bought another one for our other daughter. They range from about $100-$250. We also bought a daybed there (for about $200), which we loved, but then needed bunk beds and we found a nice, sturdy set at Costco for about $500, similar to one I liked that cost about $1200.
Some MOL'ers have recently been raving about Orange Mattress on Springfield Ave as well.

I obviously neglected to search for this topic before I posted, but now see the earlier post you refer to. Both your responses and the earlier ones are very helpful. Now I've got to get out and do the legwork. Thanks!

We got our 3 (now 4.5) year old a platform bed at the unfinished furniture place on rt 22 with 3 drawers under it (Its on the Eastbound side but I can't remember exactly where, near the old wiz shaped like a boat I think). Much better quality than ikea, if you don't mind finishing it yourself (they will also do it for you for a fee). We had a foam matress (no boxspring needed) but I can't imagine they cost much.
