New research shows that the sprawl of suburbia has resulted in an increase in fat, depressed people in suburbs as compared to cities. I would like to combat this. My wife and I have lived in Maplewood for a month and my question is this: does anyone do anything athletic on the weekends? I've driven around, and I never see anyone on the ballfields on the weekends (other than frisbee players). I'm must admit I'm getting a bit bored. Does anyone have an urge to play softball or football or basketball or golf, etc. The only exercise I get recently is fortifying my house against breakins (I live near the Parker Ave. incident). If anyone knows of goings-ons on the weekends I'm not familiar with, or would like to start something, please let me know.

Come on up to the reservation--whole lotta hiking going on. We start at the top of Claremont Ave.

We can also be found at the South Mountain arena in W. Orange, though admittedly it's the kids who are skating their little tails off.

I am up for some basketball. I am no expert by any means but can use the excercise.

I am a major volleyball enthusiast. Been wanting to setup a sandlot in Maplewood since I moved here 3 years ago. Anybody else interested?

Or join us in SO, where Meadowlands park is swarming with soccer, bocce, basketball, tennis (LOTS!), platform tennis, base/softball players, runners, and many walkers. These activities span the ages, and I've seen tennis played during snow flurries...that's dedication! Several of my neighbors have taken up serious cycling. Maybe it's hard to see us all b/c we're such a blur of activity!
