I'd like to try plan ahead for our family vacation (for once!), and an interest in Cape Cod has been expressed for 2004. I haven't been there since 1968, so anything I have to say on the subject is badly outdated. I would love to hear suggestions for good towns to stay, any tips on finding a reasonably-priced cottage rental for a family of six, and so on. If you actually happen to own a place and would like to bypass the rental agent, please let me know! And, yes, I will be htting the Websites, and checking guidebooks. But I'd like to hear from you, too, if you have anything to offer. |

We've rented a cottage in Chatham for the past 2 years. We found it through A1vacations.com. It all depends on what you want prices range from $500/wk to thousands. I like the mid-cape "elbow" area and find Provincetown lots of fun, but too touristy (like Hyannis). The age of the kids/ how far you want to be from the beach etc are all things to consider. Bay beaches & ponds attract families w/small kids while the Atlantic beaches get more teens. I love it and will definitely be going again next year! |

Thanks, hismom. I'll check out A1vacations. The kids are all adolescents - oldest will be 17, youngest will be 12, with a 14 inbetween - so close to the beach would be great. |

Another question: How's the traffic on Saturdays, get onto or off of the Cape? My fogguy memory of our one visit 35 years ago includes taking hours just to get off the mainland. Is that still the case? BTW, I checked out that site, and did find some afforable houses. Thanks again! |

Getting onto the Cape on Saturday mornings can mean a backup of miles, literally, all the way to route 25. When we go to the Cape, we try to leave the house before 5:00 A.M. so that we can be on the bridge over the canal before 9:00. Any later and you can end up spending hours in traffic while your vacation time ebbs away. Still, I love the Cape, especially Provincetown. |

Saturday traffic can be bad, but it actually took us longer on 95 (4 hours from here to New Haven!) just getting to the bridge. Route 6 is busy alot, but once you get onto the Cape, its not too bad. |
