My six year old child wants to have an "exotic pets" party. I am looking for a person who has the pets and could come to the party a do a presentation and allow the kids to pet the animals. The animals we would like to have at the party are things like ferrets, rabbits, birds, snakes. Spouse would like a monkey, but I'm not going to hold my breath that one is available.

Has anybody ever done one of these parties? If so, who should I call?

Mr. Al at Kon-Tiki Animal House ( or something. He does a great job with kids and brings ferrets, rabbits, snakes, lizards, assorted rodents. He does the exotic animal classes at the summer enrichment programs.

We did this for our daughter's 5th birthday and it was huge hit. It was through the Summit Arboretum but you can hire the animal handlers directly - the website http://www.animalwonders.com

We had the Magic Carpet World Tour and the chinchilla was a huge hit!

The instructor who taught "Exotic Pets" at the M/SO Summer program does parties. I doubt that I can put my hand on the flyer that came home, but I would bet that you could call the South Orange Maplewood Adult School and get his name and phone number.

We did the Animal Wonders magic carpet program too, a few years back. It's amazing how kids can sit still for an hour, looking at little animals. If I remember right, we discussed what animals were available, and which ones my child preferred.
