Any gift suggestions? It's a masquerade party, she's a new mom, it's my husband's sister but we're not too close with her.

Day at the spa or a manicure and a pedicure. Any type of relaxing treatment due to being a new mom.

Did I forget to mention she is very spoiled? Gets maincures, pedicures and blow outs all the time. (She is from Staten Island after all.)
We gave her a facial gift certificate for her Sweet 16, spent a lot of money (for broke college kids) and she never used it.
No, a gift certificate won't work.

Make a contribution to some charity in her honor (maybe Planned PArenthood or March of Dimes in honor of thew new child) and send her an announcement (she obviously doesn't need anything!)

Hmmm, interesting thought, but she's too materialistic for that, plus next month they're having a christening for the baby so I'll have to give something to honor the baby then.

I hate to keep shooting all these ideas down. Any more?

I like stationary (ery? sorry Mrs. Brzezinski, but I never learned that spelling word). I think a basket with monogramed stationary, thank you cards (I just found some last nigt that say tickled pink on them instead of thank you), a pen with a squishy grip thing, and lots of stamps makes a good gift.

You write a letter on stationery.

Oh Hank, this young lady has no interest whatsoever in our country's history, but I like your way of thinking...sarcasm!

Hey Bella, I like that idea. I was actually even thinking of making it myself (as I am a graphic designer). Do you know of any sources if I decide to buy instead? I saw Neiman's has some, but they're kind of pricey.

The stationery store on Baker St (Truly Yours) makes up wonderful note cards and stationery. I've given it as gifts before -- even got a thank you out of it!

Papyras (Sp) in the Garden Stat plaza (Paramus). It's a 30 min drive but the selection is great. I get my mom stationery every year for mothers day.

There's a Papyrus in Short Hills Mall - no need to go to Paramus. The Paper Pedlar on Morris Ave is also very nice.

If you're in the city, Kate's Paperie is a paper-lover's fantasy. There's one in Soho on Broadway and one on West 57th at 6th Ave. Or Lincoln Stationers at Lincoln Center.

A cane, a bottle of BenGay and one of those old 1960s posters saying, "Don't Trust Anyone Over Thirty."

And when you are standing still, you are stationary.

Ok, got the stationery thing down. Any other suggestions?
And Mem, much as I would like to give her dog poop for her birthday, she's got a ton of it already: she has a pit bull and her mother has a shih tzu, a maltese and a pomeranian. (Plus they have my father-in-law and he's always throwing the bull.)

How about a day out without the new baby. You can take care of the baby while she goes out and does whatever she wants to do. If you'd like, you can even throw in dinner

CFA, she and her husband LIVE with her parents. She gets time away from the baby ALL THE TIME.
Ok, what most of you are not getting is that WE DON'T REALLY LIKE HER.
Now any ideas?

If you don't really like her, why agonize over her gift? Maybe just get her a gift certificate to Neiman Marcus or Saks or something and leave it that? Sounds like she would love it, based on what we know of her. Of course then the big question is what dollar amount she'd find satisfactory......
