-a lovely saturday -really didn't feel like doing any house chores or work related tasks -grabbed the 3rd grader and shot over to underhill field to watch some high school football -to my great surprise, Columbia beat Seton Hall Prep in a convincing fashion. let me tell you, i moved into maplewood in 98. i checked out a football game @ underhill field. IT WAS A DISGRACE- the kids were not in shape and not properly coached(as demonstrated by poor technique and lack of discipline). i really thought at the time, that one of these young innocents was going to be maimed for life because of this sh*tty coaching. till today, hadn't seen a game in a couple of years, but even if the cougars don't win another game this season- this friggin guy Coach Boni is a g.d. genius. the team looked very well coached and they out hit a much bigger team. i was totally impressed. |

The team was great, the crowd was great, the weather was great - a perfect Saturday afternoon. And to top it off, they beat the Prep. Congratulations, guys! |

WOW! Sounds like the teams we had in the 50's! A group of us went to every Thanksgiving Day game for over 25 years. For whatever reasons, we haven't gone in years. When is the next home game? |

How did the marching band sound at halftime with their Final Fantasy 7 piece? (I am especially interested in the "pit", which are the 6 non-marching people playing the mallet instruments, percussion, and bass guitar) |

Well, if you didn't follow my advice, you missed a good time. As described in today's Star-Ledger:Chinoso Okoro ran 20 times for 113 yards and a touchdown and Zach DiMeo anchored a stubborn defense to guide Columbia past Morris Knolls, 17-9, yesterday in Maplewood. Morris Knolls led, 7-3, after two quarters but spent much of the second half in its own territory. Jason Briggs, a senior linebacker, made 11 tackles and junior defensive end Denzel Burrell had nine tackles and a sack for Columbia. DiMeo, a senior linebacker, recorded eight tackles and also gave Columbia the lead for good, 10-7, when he returned a fumble 34 yards in the third quarter. End Mark Wilkins forced the fumble when he hit the Morris Knolls quarterback on a pitch attempt. Morris Knolls pulled to within, 10-9, later in the third when Okoro was tackled in the end zone. But the senior tailback exacted revenge in the fourth with a 25-yard scoring run. Chris Yergan kicked a 42-yard field goal in the first quarter to give Columbia the lead. Morris Knolls claimed the lead in the second on a 20-yard run by Larry Rizzo. The fouth quarter touchdown, to put the game away, was especially exciting to watch. The crowd was on its feet, cheering the touchdown run, and then clapping along to Columbia's fight song, "Roar Cougar Roar". Next home game is November 1 (it's homecoming, I think). Mark it on your calendars. |

Last night, Roxbury High School had a perfectly lovely homecoming game. Oh, except for the fact that Columbia scored a touchdown in the first quarter, three in the second, two in the third, and one more in the fourth. Columbia won, 48-6. Mark your calendars for Columbia's own homecoming next Saturday, when Columbia will be hosting undefeated, top-20 Livingston High School. |

What does a father who wants to bring his kids, age 14 and 11 need to know about going to the Columbia football game this weekend? Are there concessions? Do I need to buy tickets? How early should we get there for good seats? It's homecoming, is there anything special going on? Thanks! |

Once again, it's a beautiful day. GET OFFLINE!!! Don't rake the leaves, yet. Let a few more fall. Instead, catch a football game, 2:00 this afternoon. |
