Hi Folks, I went to replace inkjet cartridges for a three year old printer and realized that for the $60 or so I would spend, I might be better off putting that money towards upgrading to a newer model under $100 that may or may not include cartridges already, but would definitely have a much better dpi. I have a B&W laser printer that I use for "nicer" print jobs..the inkjet is really a kids/home use thing. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

There's a rumor that HP employees refer to their company as "the ink company". That's where they make their profits these days. Ink cartridges are indeed expensive. Buying a printer is a tradeoff between cost of purchasing and cost to use. Cheap printers are super cheap but the ink is expensive. Best for light use. Laser printers are expensive to buy but the per-page costs are lower. I don't know what there is for moderate prices that does color! B&W laser printers are cheap now, less than $200 though I might not be that cheap. A $400 HP laser printer should last a while and won't burn you on ink costs. Tom Reingold
