Where's the best place nearby to buy dance shoes for children? I'm aware of the dance/exercise shop in Millburn; any other alternatives you'd recommend? (Trying not to spend a lot of money on the dance class experiment...)

Milk Money might be worth a try.

You can get both ballet and tap shoes at Payless.

March Children's Shoes (formerly Pop-Pops), in Maplewood Village. This is where our dance school sends everyone. They are lovely local people, who just bought the store and provide excellent customer service

Payless has stopped carrying dance shoes (or they were all out when i went in). i had to buy some ballet shoes at Stride Rite for $23 which i was not happy about. They didn't have her size at Milk Money which is the way i usually like to go. I have also bought them at a kid's consignment shop in Madison.

My apologies for the bum steer to Payless ... I should have mentioned that it has been a couple of years since I was buying dance shoes as my kids have moved on to other extracurricular pursuits. That's too bad about Payless, as dance shoes are definitely a good candidate for economizing (until the young dancers get serious, of course.)

Go to the resale shop (MIlk MOney?) on Ridgewood Rd. down from Gefkens flowers. It has the best selection of shoes and a lot of other useful kid stuff, clothes, etc. Great place!
