Does anyone have any current recommendations for a rear-facing infant carseat? The information I got when I had my first child is already outdated since the top-rated two have been discontinued. |

The Graco snugride infant seat is top rated for when the baby is an infant under 22 pounds. After that, Britax makes wonderful convertable carseats (they start out rear facing and then can be turned to forward facing when the baby gets older). The Britax Roundabouts are very popular and we got the Britax Marathon (which is a little larger and therefore will hopefully last a bit longer with our large twin boys). good luck! |

We were very happy with the Snugride, but our son outgrew it quickly - baby can only be in it up to 26" in length (which he was at 4 months). We used it with the Kolcraft universal frame stroller (had tried the coordinating Graco Metrolite stroller but weren't thrilled with it). We now have the Britax Marathon - pricey, but it should last for several years. I'm still glad we started with the infant carrier - it provided more support for the baby (versus starting right out with the Marathon). Good luck PS - People who run Babyland in Millburn are very helpful - may be a few dollars more than BabiesRUs but worth it IMHO. |

Snugride and Kolcraft are a great combo - I second all the thoughts above, although our daughter used it for 6-7 month no problem (depends on how quickly the wee one grows). ONe further thing about an infant car seat, they are great for the little ones to sleep in if they have gas or a cold and lying flat is a problem. Also, great for bringing sleeping babe in from outside. Kolcraft is also great for taller folk (I am 5'7 and the other stroller frames tended to be shorter.) The under-basket is also large and it has two cupholders. Good luck! |
