This weekend I noticed a new "Coming Soon" sign in South Orange....a new Beauty Supply store is apparently "coming soon", just 2 or 3 doors away from an existing Beauty Supply store. Is the existing store simply relocating to a new space, or are we really going to be getting ANOTHER beauty supply store? In my opinion, this is not the type of businesses that we want to be attracting to make our town a "destination" that the redevelopment is designed to accomplish. I suppose it's better than ANOTHER empty storefront...though not by much. Anyone? |

I was going to ask about that. I too saw the sign in the window. Maybe we can also add another hair or nail salon in one of the other vacant storefronts? I really hope that the other store is relocating. OT: Anyone notice that the pizza place next to the new beauty supply place has a new name and sign? It is now called Pirate's Pizza. Is this just a name change or an ownership change?

And isn't it nice that the new owner is trying to drum up some Seton Hall school spirit! Go Pirates( far away from South Orange, or at least pay S.O. for your use of municipal services) |

I had a slice with my kids after soccer practice the other night. The owner is new, very anxious to get off to a good start and I think bringing Seton Hall students into town to spend some money is a great idea. I appreciated the fact that I could get a couple of slices, and hope this shop can fill that niche. And speaking of the Seton Hall crowd... on Saturday night I stopped off at the Dancing Goat, before heading home. Not only is the decor great, students were playing games in the parlor while a great jazz trio was entertaining those of us in the back room. I hope these types of businesses can make a go of it here. |

Terrific Pat. To truly get the students involved in the town and the community would be wonderful. With 2 of my own kids in college and supporting the downtowns of both New Brunswick and Lancaster,Pa, I would LOVE to see our college kids really use our village. Went into South Mountain Jeans this weekend. Now it's no GAP, but they carry some great stuff. Even my picky 18 year old found what she needed without going to the Mall. And the owner(?)Ricky, was super nice. NCJ aka LibraryLady On a coffee break..or something like it.

Yea Dave... you took my post off the Maplewood Specific thread! (I had asked Mr. Ziegler to offer specific's to his -Vote for Ed and Me and we'll take care of the problem of illegal students in the district - statement). Happily, someone else asked the question - to date there has been no response. I think it was a valid question since school issues affect both towns - but I guess since I'm obviously from SoOr, Dave felt the need to boot me. |
