Strange noise

It’s best explained by the sound of sonar when your below the waterline on a ship, but if you haven’t been in the Navy that doesn’t help. It’s a loud, pulsating (1 sec), lasts for about 30 seconds, and sounds far away. I’ve walked around to try to find it to no avail. It is a scary noise and if I had hair I am sure it would stand up on end. An old timer tells me that the Jersey Devil has taken up residency in the woods. Who Knows? Some have a very strange sound...
