I was wondering if there are any social groups or outings that a youngish dad (31)and his two boys (a 3 1/2 yo and 2 month old) would be welcome at ? I love my boys to death, but being the only adult male home on our block between 7 am and 6 pm can get lonely!
Any advice is welcome!

the newcomers club has lots of options...for us working folks it's almost criminal how many great social activities they have for the young ones and their caretakers...

PS - my husband is also a stay at home dad, youngish...our daughter is 14 months old and loves the park - private line us if you want to have an informal play date some time!

I presume you have a car or are near a park. There's the bagel shop in town, the library, the play parks. I met a young father with a little girl and a baby today at Maplewood Park, also an at-home father. He said that once a week he drives to a different town and visits their play parks. He said he and his daughter have enjoyed that a lot. It's been a hard summer--so wet. I'm very much a senior and when I feel house crazy I go to the places I mentioned.

Do you have a dog? If so, take the dog and kids to the Dog Run in Echo Lake Park at the Westfield/Mountainside border. All sorts of people are there during the day, including stay-at-home dads.

Take Springfield Ave towards Union (it will turn into Meisel Ave after Morris Ave). Cross over Route 22. Then, after a few short lights, look for Echo Lake Park on your right. The dog run is about 1/4 mile into the park, on the right side, up on a small hill.
