I'd like to hear the experiences of others. Here are my questions: 1) Au Pairs that are from an agency usually stay a year at a time, yes? 2) Are there live-in sitters that stay several years? 3) How much do you pay and is there a price difference between the agency au pair and the self found live-in? 4) I'm thinking it's better for my child to have someone stay for several years rather than a new person each year. Opinions? 5) I'm not sure I want to live with anyone else. So is there someone out there who felt that way too, but found redeeming qualities about the situation? |

L, We had an au pair when my daughter was a baby and had a wonderful experience. You get a "true" au pair from a federally sanctioned aupair agency, such as Au Pair in America, Au Pair USA, and EF Au Pair, among others. They all have web sites. True, they come on a one-year visa. But the way we felt about it was, at least you get a one-year commitment. If you hire a local live-in nanny, how do you know how long she is going to stay? You can go through three nannies in one year. With the au pair system, you are doing it legally and you get someone who has been well screened by the sponsoring agency. You can PL me if you want more info. I know there are other people on this board who have even more au pair experience than I. |
