Seeing as how every thread turns out to be a budget / tax / school issue, I thought I would just say something good about the two towns.

My nieces love to go to the park by the Town Hall Deli and bang on the Xylophone.

My family goes to Seth Boyden School and plays them there! They also get on the stage and pretend they're at the Garden State Art Center...

The two towns are beautiful. The houses and landscaping are awesome, and the residents really appreciate that fact and try to maintain the integrity of the older homes.

Both these towns are so very tolerant and all inclusive. We are so very glad we are part of this community

Call me crazy, but if it weren't for all the short people, I'd love this place even more!

M/SO are the most close-to-NYC-beautiful-affordable-sidewalked-inclusive-communal-wooded-cultured towns of all!

Why would you live anywhere else? (Don't answer that!)

I think that the tow towns, (SO in particular) are just lovely. We just moved here in April and have been welcomed by our neighbors. I actually feel more comfortable with the people and environment here than in our old neighborhood on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

This could get long (I’ll mainly focus on Maplewood):
American Fare, Centani, Celebrated Foods, “The Gate”, Jocelyn’s, Verjus, Café Arugula, Carmalita’s, Village Trattoria, Cryans. (what did I miss?)

There’s an old fashion barber across the street from a chi’ chi’ hair salon, and both are thriving

There’s a real diner in the middle of town

Great Parks

The way my neighbors all came together after 9/11

Trying to walk to the train the morning after the blizzard of 1996 (I know, I’m sick) and thinking “What a beautiful town we’ve moved into”

My next door neighbor’s child was born with a life threatening disease, I don’t think they had to cook dinner for a year, and I am not exaggerating. (The little guy is doing just fine, thank you). Strangers from nearby neighborhoods just dropped off dinners for almost a year. I still get goose bumps.

Clinton School (I can’t comment on the other elementary schools, don’t know enough about them)

T-Ball and Softball (I coach both)

BUT MOST OF ALL….THE PEOPLE. We’re a diverse, tolerant and extremely open community. I visit beautiful towns all over our area, but they don’t have our people.

As my children mature (one in SOMS and two in Clinton) I grow with them and continue to meet even more great people. (with a clunker every now and then)

And let us not forget MOL (thanks Dave and Jamie)

I’m getting carried away and gushing too much. I know we have our issues, but I can’t help thinking that whatever they are we will solve them as a community.

I told you this could get long, so I will stop now, but I could go on for pages. I guess I like it here!

I adore the towns. I love to work on the homes and restore them to their original beauty. I lived in South Orange for 18 years. I've since moved to Long Valey and love it here as well but miss the 1895 Stanford White Victorian with functioning Yankee gutters.
Been through the schools when SOJH went to 9th grade and Marshall went to 6th. Ah.... Memories.

Nope - Tasha's friend from Ralston. How is Patricia? I would love to get in touch with her. Tasha's currently in Arizona, but she visited last fall. Please privateline me if Patricia would like to reconnect. If not, please give her my best (we were in a few clubs together at SOJH).
