I know there was a posting on this way back when but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone recommend a good seamstress/dress maker in the area? I am looking to get some alterations done to a couple of vintage dresses -nothing elaborate - just needs taking in but would like someone who knows what they're doing (since I don't!) beyond hemming, etc. Thanks.

Francesca is absolutely wonderful. She's in Maplewood Village, on Baker Street across from NetNomads.

I second Francesa. We've had some alterations done, and also funky stuff like sewing a backpack handle back on (what a tongue-twister). Fast and nice, and price OK

Francesca is extraordinary. Stop by and see the gorgeous gowns, including wedding gowns and prom dresses, she has made from scratch. She is an F.I.T. grad, and just the nicest person. Her prices are terrific, too!

I guess by now you've figured Francesca is the answer. But I'll just add my voice here to tell you that I brought a friend to her who had a vintage dress (from her grandmother and it had a lot of lace,)which she needed altered and repaired and Francesca did a wonderful job.
