there are several threads on this, which you can now probably find using the souped-up search option Dave has kindly installed.

based on those threads and interviewing three orthodontists, we went with Dr. Steinberg in Millburn and are happy so far (treatment's not over yet).

Friends of mine use Dr. Steinberg in Millburn. He told my friend that her kid isn't ready yet for orthodontic work, but to come back in six months and he'll check again. They've now gone back for two six-month check-ups, and he has not charged them. He doesn't charge a fee until he actually begins the work. Now that's integrity.

With Steinberg, we're on something like the sixth "follow" visit; still no charge.....

My child has a very small mouth and seemingly very large teeth. At each visit, its as though next time he's going to have to intervene. Fortunately, the mouth size is just (barely) keeping up with the teeth. (He did recommend one (two?)tooth be pulled on our first visit; had it done by our regular dentist and it was a non-event!)

Robert Rosen in Millburn is great. Nice manner very cool with kids, small, organized office. No waiting. My son is about to finish with his braces and everything has turned out beautifully.

We used Mark Caplan who has an office in Millburn. We used him in Edison when he lived there, as he visits Edison every Wednesday. Caplan is extremely fastidious. You can even see it in his clothing. He's a bit over the top, though, and recommends wearing a retainer for the rest of your life.

Hmm, I guess that's a lukewarm recommendation. I think I'll take my younger daughter to one of those recommended above. Harrumph.
