Anyone know of good alternatives to the on-site program, and the Y? We didn't make it into the on-site, and we don't get home till about 6:15 so it wouldn't have worked anyway. Our kid is not thrilled with the Y, so I'm exploring. Daughter's in 5th grade. Also, what do people do for same in middle school? We're train-bound, and never can get home before 6:15 (train gets in at 6:05). Thanks much. |

The JCC in West Orange has an after-school program. They call it Kids' Club and they provide bus service from area schools. It's nondenominational. |

The ASP in the middle school allows you to give permission for your child to be "auto signed out" at a time of your choosing. You sign something to this effect at the beginning of the year (or whenever) to authorize it. Not sure how this works at SOMS, but at MMS, where they are at the Maplewood Library, the kids can go upstairs and wait for Mom or Dad in the library or walk home or whatever. Of course, you have to trust your child at that point, but most kids that age can handle a certain amount of this sort of responsibility and you aren't talking about a long period of time in this case. |
