The village was awarded $720,000 in grants to expand the Jitney Service.
The full story is on the S. Orange web page http://www.southorange.org/news.asp?page=1

Congratulations.

So, I can be the first to suggest that there should be a stop on Mayhew Drive? :-)

It is great news, but I do want to clarify that it will be at least one year before we get the buses and maybe as long as two years.
That leaves plenty of time to come up with a route that avoids Mayhewdrives house - just kidding.

Mark,

So, I guess that means we'll see a "Coming Soon" sign on my street this week? Just kidding!

This is great news Mark, congratulations!

We have found a lot of support for your "Main Street" jitney program, especially the two routes you’re planning on running mid-morning and mid-afternoon for daytime shoppers and diners.

I have taken it a step further, and have in the past two months collected over 500 signatures of residents in both towns who support the idea of Maplewood joining together with South Orange to provide an all day jitney service for our "Two Towns, One Community."

By year-end, we hope to have several thousand residents who support both towns sharing the jitney run weekdays, each town providing one bus, each bus going in opposite directions from our train stations, and through both our residential and business districts.

Residents with only one car in the family, seniors, and students at the middle and senior high schools have also expressed much interest in this service. Besides as you stated, improving the air quality and alleviating traffic congestion, we should also expect more parking spaces for those that need it...

I will be sharing more information with you on this venture next month after the elections.

BTW, I haven’t heard back from you regarding the other matter you e-mailed me about?
