We are looking to buy our 1st grade son furniture for his room. We would like to get some nice stuff that will last him for many years. Any suggestions? Of course, the more reasonable the better. Thanks.

Tyr the Pottery Barn Kids catalog. There are some very nice things in there.

Flexa up on Route 10 does great bed/desk/etc. systems that can evolve as your child grows. Very solid, and my daughter loves hers. They also have a website if you want a preview.

Go to the auctions at Lincoln galleries in East Orange and pick up some "real" cannon-ball twin beds in mahogany. You can even paint them if you want the Pottery Barn kids look. Avoid anything with a laminate finish. We've made the mistake of putting a few Ikea pieces in the children's room - never again.
