At the Baird Center I saw a survey about ideas for future recreation plans. I said i would like to see a dog run in South Orange. Also a skate park.

I vote to retire some of our debt. Was that on the survey? |

Dave: Buying a Tony Smith sculpture does not help retire some of our debt - remember that all expenditures, in one form or another either increases our debt or prevents us from paying it down on an accelerated basis. In all seriousness, this gets back to my many posts about prioritization and frankly I have a hard time when I see people who want lower taxes/lower debt but then go out and say that we should incur a discretionary expense such as the acquistion of a Tony Smith sculpture. If we were cash rich and/or debt free, that would be one story, but we are not. We have to come to the realization we can not have our cake and eat it (lower taxes/reasonable tax hikes and increased discretionary spending). Sorry for the thread drift ... |

I only recommended the sculpture purchase if it were to be resold immediately for 10x the purchase price, which would go toward paying off the debt. |

Dave, If the Village's downtown property were sold at market, some of the debt could be redeemed. |
