We are looking for an honest contractor and/or company to remodel our kitchen. We need everything including floors, appliances, cabinets and sheet rocking. We don't have a huge budget and can't find anyone to give us a realistic quote.

Have you chosen the cabinets, appliances, sink, fixtuers and lighting? Or is any portion of this being included within the quote?
Good cabinets for a 10' X 10' area will run $7,000-$10,000 + installation.
Counter tops vary depending on the material. Granite, soap stone, slate, ceramic, wood, corian, pre-fab formica etc. $200.00 - $7,000.00 + installation.
The money does add up quickly. Walls, electrical, plumbing, sheetrock, paint, apliances, molding, flooring, back splash and so on.
Before you know it you've spent $50,000.00

We'd be happy to come by and discuss this with you should you wish.

"Before you know it you've spent $50,000". This is the problem with most contractors. They aren't compensated to help you save money. You do not need to spend $50,000.
First decide how long you are going to stay in the house. Are you going to be using this kitchen the rest of your life? Next decidew hat is important to you. You probably won't get your money out of top of the line appliances when you sell but if you love to cook, maybe they are worth it. If you are smart and don't let your contractor "take you to the cleaners" you should be able to do it for $30,000ish, and thats for a really nice kitchen with good cabinets, floor and counbtertop.

I don't disagree and do consider the customers budget and offer alternatives. I also agree that their are some people that would love to spend money that's not in the budget.
It all comes down to the finishs and time in the home.
Good, bad and ugly is available to all.
A kitchen can be done for $10,000 ish as long as you want to put the trailer park cabinets together and constantly apply adhesives to keep them from falling onto the plywood counter you would get.
Appliances, sink, fixtuers and lighting should be chosen by you. Cabinets and counter will drive the bulk of the cost.
Good luck.

We've used FINISHING TOUCHES Unlmtd. for our fabulous kitchen, deck and now bathroom. Bill O'Brien and his crew are wonderful, no nonsense type of guys. He'll give it to you straight, no chaser.
We had our kitchen gutted and remodeled about 2 years ago. The process was painful, but the outcome wonderful. Kitchen cabinets and counter tops, not to mention your choice of appliances if you're starting from scratch, are the bulk of your money. Good cabinets are a MUST (we used Kemper).
We didn't go into any home project thinking of how long we'd reside in our home. Our projects were done based on our tastes and wants for our home.
Good luck with whatever you chose to do.}

We remodeled our kitchen last summer, but coordinated most of the work ourselves. I'll give you a pretty detailed breakdown of what our costs were and where we purchased our stuff. We did not do any sheetrocking, we kept the bullnose tile that is original to the kitchen. The ceiling needed some work as it had old acoustic type tiles that caused damage to the "real" ceiling...so the ceiling demo and sheetrock was about $1,000.

Cabinets $7,500 (middle of the road Thomasville cabinets...I think the "city series" cabinets, bought from Home Depot in Watchung)

Cabinet Hardware $300

Granite Counter $3,000 (also from Home Depot, includes installation)

Floor $500 (natural slate from Expo on sale)

Floor Install $1500 (random friend of a friend...got another quote for about $2500)

Cabinet Installation & Trim Work and removal of old cabinets $3000 (from Carpenter)

Appliances - Frigidaire Stainless Steel (stove, microwave, fridge, dishwasher) $3000 from PC Richard...there were some manufacturer rebates and they discounted everything about 10% for buying multiple appliances

Stainless Steel Sink $400 (Home Depot)

Plumbing $750 (sink/faucet hookup, gas hookup for stove, waterline hook up for fridge, disposal, dishwasher connection)

Garbage Disposal $200 (Home Depot)

Faucet $250 (Home Depot)

Light Fixtures (2) $300 (Capitol Lighting)

Electrical Work $400 (connect dishwasher, install light fixtures) - Stacey Electric

My math is lousy, but I think that comes to roughly $22,100...I could be a tad off on a few figures...but it's close.

If you have any questions or want more detail, feel free to ask.

Hope this helps.
