I received this list from a e-pal in Australia. So much better than the usual messages we see! Here are 16 actual error messages seen on the computer >screens in Japan, where some are written in Haiku. Aren't >these better than "your computer has performed an illegal >operation"? > >-------------------------------------------- > >The Web site you seek cannot be located, >but countless more exist. > >-------------------------------------------- > >Chaos reigns within. Reflect, repent, and reboot. >Order shall return. > >----------------------------------------------- > >Program aborting: Close all that you have worked on. >You ask far too much. > >------------------------------------------------ > >Windows NT crashed. I am the Blue Screen of Death. >No one hears your screams. > >------------------------------------------------ > >Yesterday it worked. Today it is not working. >Windows is like that. > >------------------------------------------------- > >Your file was so big. It might be very useful. >But now it is gone. > >------------------------------------------- > >Stay the patient course. Of little worth is your ire. >The network is down. > >------------------------------------------------- > >A crash reduces your expensive computer to a simple stone. > >------------------------------------------------- > >Three things are certain: Death, taxes and lost data. >Guess which has occurred? > >------------------------------------------------- > >You step in the stream, but the water has moved on. >This page is not here. > >------------------------------------------------- > >Out of memory. We wish to hold the whole sky, >But we never will. > >------------------------------------------------ > >Having been erased, >The document you're seeking must now be retyped. > >------------------------------------------------- > >Serious error. All shortcuts have disappeared. > >------------------------------------------------- > >Screen. > >Mind. > >Both are blank. >

Way better than the standard "(name of program) has performed an illegal function and will be closed down". Whenever I get this message, which is more often than I would like, it often leaves me wondering just how full the computer jails have become. |

I received an interesting one yesterday. I tried to copy it here but apparently cannot. The message is very simple. The title bar says: WestCiteLink and the message says: Object threw an unknown exception! No one here knows what it means. |

RT, Have your IT department upgrade your version of Norton Antivirus (or if it's at home, you might need to upgrade your personal version). http://tinyurl.com/rxcp and search for WestCiteLink Waiting For The Electrician, Or Someone Like Him |

Not to be a skeptical meanie, but those are not actual error messages. But they are clever. |

Objects throwing exceptions sounds like the error was on the server. Wait a while and try again. |

"WestCiteLink is a software application that automatically finds all legal citations in your documents and links them to the full-text versions on Westlaw®." "Object threw an unknown exception!" indicates the catch-all phrase for an error-handling part of a program. In other words, there was some sort of error in the program and the portion of the code that determines what the specific error was couldn't determine it. |
