sac- wish we'd thought of that - sounds great! I think my 7 year old would be thrilled to get any of those. Maybe next year. (and those high school kids with not-quite-costumes could take it or leave it) knak |

As the only single person without offspring on my block, I always feel a need to make sure that I give out The Good Stuff (can't have the neighborhood kids thinking I'm some kind of loony, or something). Last year's big hit were chocolate/peanut butter eyeballs (although some of the little ones were a little weirded out at the much-repeated cry of "Eyeballs for Everybody!" at my door...) This year, I won't admit how hard I looked to find more of them :-) "Cats climb because being ruler of all you survey sucks when all you survey is ankles." -- Unknown |

Will everyone who is giving out Kit Kats please post their address here? Toys & stickers- I think that may be next year's loot! Great idea. And if all of us on MOL do it, it could start a trend. So, when the children of Maplewood start complaining that there is no more candy & too many stickers, we can trace the fault back to Sac! |

Sorry SAC and Greenetree, but I tried that one year. A few years ago when Halloween was on a Saturday, we went out (to pay respects for a colleague of my husband's who passed away) and left a big basket full of Halloween trinkets in front of the house. To light the way I even left a few of those skeleton head lanterns. I left a sign in the basket saying "take one, we're watching you!" and returned to find everything thrown all over the place! (And one of the lanterns stolen.) The (obviously unsupervised) kids were'nt thrilled with the selection. This year I got a few bags of 3 musketeers and some of those chocolate eyeballs, plus I'll give out whatever my kids get that we don't really like them to eat—hard candy, lollipops, etc. (Though I'm sure they'll sneak in a few before the day is done.) |

Thats why they say trick or treat. If its no treat you will be subject to a trick. the definition of trick being left to the imagination of some unhappy goblins. www.freshwater-films.com |

well, our first two bags bit the dust: snicker snackers and nutrageous. so, we got four more and have been disciplined about JUST NOT OPENING THEM: reese cups skittles kit kat something else I don't remember all this and our FABULOUS house decorations, and we'll probably hve 15 trick or treaters. |

We've done the stickers, etc. routine before and didn't seem to have any complaints. We didn't leave them out unsupervised, however. I refuse to take either credit or blame for this one, though. You are all still responsible for your own selection of treats and I will only take responsibility for mine! |

I thought you gave out the little airline bottles of booze. If I have time, I will be giving out fresh strawberries on the stem, hand-dipped in milk and dark chocolates, as well as an assortment of different flavored truffles. I suspect though I wont have the time. |

Hey, has anyone noticed a decided drop off in kids trick or treating these days? We always have far fewer kids coming around than we expect. Or is it my neighborhood (and its high taxes)? Oops, mixing threads again! |

"Keep the kid home if he can die from eating candy". Are you serious? If the kid is not old enough to discern what is safe, the parent should go with her. Maybe the kid can be trusted to bring stuff home for the parent to sift through the loot. Once she is old enough to know what's safe, she can go alone. I don't see the point in depriving a kid of Halloween, though. Your suggestion is shockingly uncompassionate. Tom Reingold There is nothing

Blow-Pops lolipops are great. You can use what is left to tie to Birthday, and Holiday gifts. You can make a boquet of them, tie them with a ribbon and call it a gift. They also last a good long time before they get yucky. |

Report from the no-candy station: Stickers are moving fairly well, but the top vote getters are the "glow in the dark" spider rings and the tatoos featuring eyeballs and other spooky pictures. So far, no complaints at all. |

I had both candy and pretzels and gave the kids a choice. I said they could take both if they liked. Lots of adults thought I was silly, but I proved them wrong. A few kids preferred pretzels, especially (but not exclusively) the very small ones. Tom Reingold There is nothing

Leftover analysis: Milk Duds: 10% Reeses PB cups: 19% Hershey Bars: 30% Milky Ways: 13% Snickers: 14% Conclusions: Milk Duds were the most favorite, Hershey's the least. I noticed that the little ones liked the Milk Duds the best (Look- I got a yellow one)! The Spouse also drew two conclusions: 1. We had more little ones than any other age group, and 2. I need to get a life.
